"when the girls throw their panties on stage it's because they think that....uh...I am a place to hang their panties up. they aren't throwing it at the stage...they're throwing at me....so they can hang them up, on my shoulders or something. but often they miss."

yooo, this video made me fall in love with mr.williams all over again. i'm speaking for myself when i say he's the epitome of hubby material...he's funny, weird, stylish, a musical genious and SEXY.

it's my life and i do what i wanna do

over winter break I was fortunate to be in Los Angeles for the Haiti Relief Benefit Concert which featured many of the dopest underground LA rappers like dom kennedy, pac div, U-N-I, nipsey, and the list goes on. but what i appreciate most from concerts is being introduced to new artists/new music.

Tiron, another LA artist, performed the above song and a couple others off his mixtape "Ketchup" which I downloaded to my Itunes the next day. Its pretty dope if you ask me...so for those of ya'll into the whole LA underground rap ish should check it ouut.

...AND since you'll already be downloading, you 9th wonder fans should check out his new mixtape "9th Wonder Invented the Remix...AGAIN" (love the title)

&&& speaking of music...

i know black people always find a way to celebrate SOMETHING. but a going away party.... for someone going to jail!? lmaooo. and I'm mad wayne is over here looking like he's about to leave to go on tour or some shit... your ass is going straight to the penitentiary, the fuck you cheesin for?! lol.

Avatar

Soooo over winter break, I got to see James Cameron's smash hit Avatar. Great movie, lots of racial undertones. So here are a few thoughts of my own I wanted to share with you guys (if you even give two shits).

- One of my main problems with the film was that the movie portrayed a white male entering an “ethnic world” for solely his personal gain and eventually becoming the leader/hero of the same people he oppressed. Although this is true, the concept of the white hero is not an unfamiliar one.

- The casting of the movie was so annoying. Did anyone else realize that whites were cast as the humans and people of color cast as the savages, Cameron is, subliminally, reinforcing the idea of white as the norm and the theory of white dominance and the “other” as the non-white body.

-The mere physical features and the savage ways of the Na’vi all perpetuate stereotypes of black people. The entire film is a re-imagining of the great genocide against people of color on America’s colonialism. And the blue-skinned Na’vi, with their painted faces and feathered arrows, are the ideal representations of the oppression that has been lobbed at various incantations of the “savage” that came before. Many of the local Na’vi ride around on horse-like creatures whooping and hollering, even forming custom “war parties” at one point. Many have braids and dreads, with jewelry and body painting similar to various African cultures.

- and my all time favorite stereotype of black women...our extreme sexuality. The movie most def played into white men's fetishization of black women. The portrayal of Black women as lascivious by nature is an enduring stereotype. The descriptive words associated with this stereotype are singular in their focus: seductive, alluring, and tempting. The idea that women of color are naturally and inevitably sexually promiscuous is reinforced in the film with Jake and Neytiri's relationship.

I know what you're thinking...blah de blah de blaaaah. but it's my blog and I'm allowed to share my thoughts on here so shut up :)

it's twenty ten!

okaaay so i'm a bit upset with myself because I actually considered, only for a SECOND though, actually joining twitter. maybe it's cause I feel disconnected from everyone/everything all the way over here in this suburb of bahhstan. but then i remembered...i have my blog! so i'm going to start blogging again rather than using it as a place to vent / be depressed every once in a while (see below -_-).

so it's a new year, which is always exciting. 2009 was crazy, but in the end I came out stronger, wiser, tougher, and calmer. all good qualities i will gladly take with me into the new year. as for right now, i am awaiting two packages: one an order from www.nastygalvintage.com and the other from mi madre, which contains clothes and my nikon...all of which I will need for FASHION WEEK THIS WEEKEND!! so stay posted for pictures from NYC!

oh...and i <3 my blackberry
medford... you can't always keep me disconnected from my loved ones, ha!
